Creepiest Adverts of the 20th century.

Liao Yusheng es un fotógrafo de arquitectura que trabaja para editoriales como Taschen en, prácticamente, una ciudad distinta cada semana. Cuando no está saltando en de un sitio a otro, reside entre Taipei, Shangai y Nueva York. Le persigue una fijación obsesiva con la comida, particularmente la que ponen en los “lugares invisibles”: puestos de comida rápida, vuelos intercontinentales y estantes de supermercado. Tiene una saga de entradas dedicada por entero a las hamburguesas. Por supuesto, hace fotos de todo. Hace un par de años me enganché a su vida a través de flicker. Una de sus entradas típicas dice algo así. We tried the deluxe upstairs version. Verdict? How’s the soup dumplings from the people who invented soup dumplings? Taipei’s 鼎泰豐/Ding Tai Feng is better. No question. Us Taiwanese just know how to cook! The skin here is not as thin as Ding Tai Fung’s, though not nearly as thick as the abominations they call soup dumplings in NYC. We tried both the regular version (30RMB/US$3.62 for 6) and the crab meat version (50RMB/US$6.04 for 6). Compare those prices with the 16 for 8RMB at the take-out window downstairs… though they say the quality is better upstairs, so you are not just paying for the ambiance. Or so they claim anyway. Like I said, not great, and very expensive for Shanghai pricing (the takeout is mad cheap, though). You are better served just going to the Ding Tai Feng branch here in Shanghai if you want good soup dumplings. And no, the Ding Tai Feng here is not as good as the original in Taipei, but it’s still better than Nanxiang.In any case, I’m on a mission to try a few more Shanghainese made soup dumplings before I leave Shanghai (as opposed to ones made in Taiwanese restaurants here, which all feature deliciously thin skins). Es la versión tecnificada e hiperrealista de leer la biografía de tu personaje histórico favorito. Personalmente, me maravillan por igual los viajes de Charles Darwin y las aventuras marcianas y cosmopolitas de un oriental a quien nunca conoceré, y cuya vida me resulta inaccesible y ajena.
