¡Menudencias!

The Soviet ‘Fire Hedgehog’
What looks to be an anti-infantry experiment - 88 downward-firing machine guns in the bomb bay of a Tupolev Tu-2, giving a firing rate of about 1,300 rounds per second.
Believed to be flown and tested in 1944, and abandoned due to the problems associated with in-flight reloading of the guns.

My first reaction to the new WikiReader device, which houses the entire Wikipedia on disk and enables you to browse it, was “huh?” My second reaction was “wow.” Let’s face it. If you travel, you’ll find yourself with long stretches of un-connected time. If you had only one Internet resource available to you, the Wikipedia would probably be it.
It runs on two AAA batteries, which power the device for months, according to the company. The gadget has “instant on,” and uses an Amazon-Kindle like black-and-white screen.
The WikiReader costs $99 at Wikireader.com and amazon.com. For $29, you can buy an annual subscription for updated microSD cards.

Cyberdyne Systems style.

“Fearing that the natural world is being replaced by technology, the artist installed a working computer inside of an idle beaver. First, she crafted a computer from the motherboard up, tested it, then hollowed out a stuffed beaver and molded the two together using spandex spray, resin, and fiberglass. After three months of work, the result was Compubeaver, followed up by its accessory, Text-o-Possum, a stuffed possum that’s equipped with a laser in its back leg that projects a virtual keyboard.”

Jaaaaajajajajaja!!!

“According to Darpa’s solicitation, 85 percent of recent wartime injuries involved damage to the extremities and facial regions. That often means multiple surgeries, rehab and permanent disability for vets. They’re hoping to eliminate the injuries, and their long-term consequences, with a system that can reproduce in vitro tissues with the same structural and mechanical properties of the real stuff. And maybe make better versions: Darpa wants implanted results that will  “replace, restore or improve tissue/organ function.”

Phase II of the project will see animal testing of the most promising systems. And Darpa foresees eventual use by military and civilian populations. Sounds like fodder for Hollywood, but broken bones and third-degree burns might one day be treated with an easy drop-in at the body part bank.”
